Dear Distinguished Delegates, Faculty, and Affiliates:

On behalf of the Chemical Society of Thailand (CST), I am grateful to Her Royal Highness Princess Chulabhorn for her kindness to graciously preside over, and declare the opening of Pure and Applied Chemistry International Conference 2018 as well as to deliver the special keynote lecture.

Since the founding of the Chemical Society of Thailand (CST) in 1980, the first PACCON has been launched in 2002 and now the conference has brought together thousands of participants and invited speakers across Asia and the world to participating, disseminating, and sharing knowledge of recent advancement in chemistry and related areas. In addition to the main conference, we have also organized several important symposia as showcases of how the chemistry innovation progress in the past years under the theme, "Chemistry toward a Sustainable future".

The conference has a comprehensive program and includes presentations from a Nobel Laureate and a number of eminent scientists. As always, the conference will provide oral and poster presentations of pure and applied chemistry led by world well-known chemists who expert in the areas. Moreover, we also provide a special session for teachers who experts in teaching chemistry in school nationwide for acquainting them with international atmosphere. This is another activity of CST to promote education in chemistry at school level with the aim to increase public understanding of how importance of chemistry in improving their standard of living. In addition, the small scale chemistry workshop will be also arranged and the goal of this project is to build the capacity of teachers to be the trainers of the other teachers in each country in teaching the hands-on science experiments to the students with safety and at low cost. We hope that this project will be beneficial to the country and ASEAN community.

As PACCON 2018 is the one of our significant activities, it gives us great honor indeed to co-organize and welcome all of you to this conference. We trust that by sharing and understanding the recent progress in chemistry, we will be updated on the latest trends in chemistry as well as be informed about innovative research strategies to empower our students and people in this world to live well in this fast changing world.

I am very proud of the effort taken by the Department of Chemistry, Faculty of Science, Prince of Songkla University as the main organizer in holding this conference. It is also a great occasion for celebrating 50th anniversary of Faculty of Science, Prince of Songkla University. The endeavor taken by the organizing committee in gathering the plenary and invited speakers as well as the participants nationwide and overseas to address the challenges in establishing the chemical sciences for sustainability, reflects the commitment given in engaging the scholars, thoughts with tools and technology. I congratulate the organizing committee for the hard work and dedication in making this conference a great success.

I wish all the participants fruitful deliberations and believe that all of you will enjoy the sharing and exchanging of your expertise. I also hope that the conference shall further advance chemistry for life and sustainable future.

Thank you.
